Spring 2011 RTW: Chanel

7 Jan

Before this show I would have said there is no collection that Chanel has ever performed to less than expectations (if that made any sense). I have the highest expectations when it comes to Lagerfeld, and in this case it was a disaster. I know that this is a truly great show, but because of the incredible Fall 2010 show, this one did not live up to everything I desired. He was inspired by a film that Coco Chanel designed the costumes for, “Last Year at Marienbad.” The colors were morose and somber and the cuts were typical for a Chanel line. Still impressive, but not to the same extent. The black dress with lace bottom and uneven cut (first look, third row) was worn by Blake Lively in November to a Chanel dinner and can be seen on my other blog, here.
