Spring 2011 RTW: Giambattista Valli

15 Jan

Valli had inspiration from the 60’s for the line — not unusual for this season. There were a lot of stiff, boxy tops over skinny bottoms — skirts or pants — that were beautiful and original. Cheetah print was very present as well. For his evening gowns there was a lot of wrapped yet flattering patterns, which is hard to do considering the overlapping material usually makes one look bulgy (although how could you make models be bulgy)…The 5th look with the tightening around the bottom and waist reminds me of Diane Kruger’s Oscar look last year by Chanel — wasn’t really a fan of it then and still am not, it’s just insanely hard to pull off. Valli’s strange thick, shrubbery type looks were present in this season as well, although mixed with menswear was a really interesting combination.
