Spring 2011 Couture: Christian Dior

24 Jan

What a way to start of Couture Fashion Week. Galliano out-did himself for Dior — everything was gushing elegance and glamour but it didn’t feel over-done or repetitive in any way at all. Looking at these gowns I can just picture the sketches — it seems as if they just walked right out of the book. The pale colors (apart from the first few which were deep reds and browns) and huge bustles are the modern interpretation of a time long past. The layers of tulle, the angled hems…it was innovative and brilliant. I especially love the pale pink/lavender that is off-the-shoulder and the bust ties into a bow and the white with smatterings of color that looks like a bubble dress from the top but transforms into a skin-tight bottom…sheer elegance and beauty. If all of Couture week is like this I won’t know what to do with myself…it’ll be utterly overwhelming.
