Fall 2011 RTW: Salvatore Ferragamo

27 Feb

This collection was made by the last piece. The different black and white patterns work together in a great way in the earlier looks and the sheer pieces were wonderful as well. All of these combined don’t equate the magnificence of the last piece. It would be boring if it were not for the small cut under the bust 00 it just is elegant with that little bit of a kick to the glamour. Beautiful.

Fall 2011 RTW: Missoni

27 Feb

Every collection I think is going to be the downfall of Missoni — the tight restrictions on their style will finally halt the creativity. This is never the case. I think it really just makes their collections more amazing. I loved the loose knit knits — the draping and huge draping. It was literally like scarves were wrapped together to create this piece. The Missoni style patterns in the lightweight material — delicious. The colors of the pieces were just amazing as well. They blend together is such amazing ways and this is what I think is the key to Missoni’s success. They always combine and literally mesh colors together and they create beautiful designs. Just beautiful.

Fall 2011 RTW: Aquilano e Rimondi

27 Feb

This was very fun. I loved the vague army style to these collections. The embellishing and the ostrich feather combination were really fun and worked so well together. The combination of these many different styles in one should be too much and over done but they work beautifully. I love the rust colored that is used all over. The button down rust colored look that uses all of these are just so fabulous. The metallic looks were a bit much, they took it to a whole other level that I wasn’t  fan of but were still interesting.

Fall 2011 RTW: Moschino Cheap & Chic

Truly hated this. Truly. The last two began to atone for the previous twenty-five…but only began too.

Fall 2011 RTW: Roberto Cavalli

27 Feb

I’ve never been the biggest fan of Cavalli but I really enjoyed this collection. It was so feminine and so elegant. The layering was not sloppy, it all worked. There was a lot of leather but more velvet and silk. The patterns were beautiful — animal prints of course and the florals amazing. I really love this collection. I’ve been so wiped out from the Oscar coverage (check out stylegurus.wordpress.com !) but I think these pieces work together really well and combine to create a lovely collection that is really unusual while still remaining inside of Cavalli’s realm.

Fall 2011 RTW: Dolce & Gabbana

27 Feb

I don’t really know how to say this. I adore Dolce & Gabbana. This is just a horrible collection. The stars are tacky and the cuts are boring. The blazers are fun just nothing special. The shoes were a play on oxfords but didn’t look right. I thought the skirt in the last look was pretty — very Haute Hippie looking to me. That’s about it. I was highly disappointed. After the Spring collection which was so beautiful and has gotten so much attention for the delicate, feminine florals and beautifully done lace…It’s just unfortunate to follow with such a weak collection.

Fall 2011 RTW: Emilio Pucci

27 Feb

TO DIE FOR. AMAZING. IF THE OSCAR’S WERE NOT TONIGHT I WOULD GIVE AWAY MY LOUBOUTIN’S IF ONE OF THE GOWNS WERE NOT PRESENT. Oh my god. Oh my god. I love the low cut with the high collar — it is such an unusual idea but so phenomenally done and looks so amazing. It was a one-dimensional collection in that all of the looks were revolving around the same idea, yet this was a new idea that deserves the attention given to it. The prints and the lace inlay in many of the pieces — the bright and amazing long sleeved dress with a lace inside along the sleeve is beautiful and exotic…I want everything that is here. Everything.

Fall 2011 RTW: Marni

27 Feb

My mom and I share an obsession with Marni. We both thought that this collection was ingenious. The use of a simple pattern in so many mediums was amazing. The platforms were drool worthy. The furs were one of a kind and played so boldly with color. The way that the collection combined looks that ha completely matchy-matchy two-piece sets with something just a little off kilter –i.e. the fur sleeves on the purple shirt/skirt combination — just adds such character to what could be a very blasé collection otherwise. Will always love and admire Marni.

Fall 2011 RTW: Jil Sander

27 Feb

I was so moved by Sander’s collection for the spring. It was creative and really redefined an entire genre of style. This collection was much different — and maybe it is only because it is a different season. While I was watching I didn’t feel the same passion and intensity that was ever present in the Spring collection. It’s probably just me — and I’ve read many write-ups that really adore this collection so I will accept opposite opinions.
