Spring 2011 RTW: Marc Jacobs

2 Feb

What a gorgeous collection. A huge 70’s inspiration for Jacobs in creating this collection, but it works and is different from all the other 70’s inspired designers for the season. My favorite aspect of the entire show — the creativity of the european peasantry influences aside — was the gigantic bows in their different forms that accompany literally each look. They appeared most on in colored leather on the belts but also made cameos on straps, the hair or embellishment. Another unusual aspect was the color scheme. I would have seen these colors as fall colors, very deep and dark, but somehow they work perfectly, by no stretch of the imagination, for spring.

On another note, this collection has already had an abundance of press. Most notably it was featured in a Mario Testino editorial for U.S. Vogue for February: “Gangs of New York” — the editorial and runway pieces used can be seen: here. Heidi Klum wore a dress from this collection to the Golden Globes only a few weeks ago. While this was not my favorite piece from the collection, it’s a fun red-carpet look — see here. Lastly, Zhang Jingchu wore one of my absolute favorite dresses from the collection — decadent with bows and leather — to an awards ceremony on New Years Eve (see here).
