Fall 2011 RTW: Luca Luca

10 Feb

Raul Melgoza, creative director for Luca Luca, is quoted as saying backstage at the show: “The inspiration was a woman traveling through the woods. I envisioned her first coming in with a horse…A little bit of the riding inspiration, the utility. This idea of kind of a masculine feminine.”

This inspiration definitely came through the show. What beautiful pieces and combinations of different styles. I didn’t put any stickies on these because of these six I love all of them. They’re innovative and unusual and show wonderful intuition and thought. The deep maroon-ey reds and the fur and the skinny pants with boxy tops — even the intensely bright red suit — it all comes together so beautifully. While many of these seemed as though they were comprised of heavy fabrics that would weigh such a small model down, she was weightless and completely owned the clothes rather than the other way around. A wonderful collection.
