Fall 2011 RTW: Christian Siriano

11 Feb

Siriano has a skill for attention grabbing. The show opened with a black light with a green haze too it. Out of this fog of dark colors emerged the second look I described (somehow they got jumbled, usually they’re in chronological order) immediately grabbing all attention and directing it towards the unusual and brilliance that the viewers are about to expect.

I would say a solid three-quarters of this show were devoted solely to black. In fact, when the first piece that wasn’t black showed up — a twist of greens in a mini dress with one shoulder strap — it seemed like a trick of the eyes. Then the glam emerged — no one does it quite like Siriano. There is such an intensity combined with so much femininity in his gowns that it’s impossible to describe or emulate. The last look, the one with the structured but tiered skirt with pink carpet material it kind of looks like, the pairing of such grace and elegance and intensity matched with the simplicity of a sheer tank — pure genius.
