Fall 2011 RTW: Cynthia Rowley

12 Feb

This season the Cynthia Rowley collection had a huge emphasis on geometrics. Rowley did it differently than the Nicole Miller show though — where in Miller I found the emphasis to be interesting and contribute to the design, for Rowley I see it as overpowering. There were dresses that possibly masqueraded as pants suits, difficult to tell from the billowing legs (the olive green number for instance) and mini dresses over pants — a look I have always been against but I am completely biased for no reason at all. The colors seemed overpowering to me in many of the contexts — the beautiful, pale grayish-lavender coat is completely overpowered by the aqua/golden silk scarf, a minimal piece but distracts from everything else in the look.
