Fall 2011 RTW: Altuzarra

13 Feb

For those who aren’t aware of the humorous history behind the brand — Altuzarra is Marc Jacob’s “grunge” collection. The collection solely responsible for his dismissal from Perry Ellis and, consequently, making him an icon. This is the collections 20th anniversary, and it is celebrated with a really fabulous collection. The edgy take on preppy is my take on it — with plaids and argyle transformed into the greatest grunge style and with such character that the original designs lack. One of my absolute favorite pieces here is the argyle dress that is on a slant, with the design bunching on the side making it so interesting and fun and definitely portraying a hidden message. Inspiration here came from old photos of Kate Moss, the style icon making history with giant parkas over her evening gowns in the winter weather. This inspiration manifested in giant parkas and — less glamorous — dresses. While in the past, the 90’s style inspiration was not in season, luck was with the collections ideal and their style was right on point.
