Fall 2011 RTW: Thakoon

13 Feb

Not only was this one of the greatest lines, it had one of the greatest innovative inspirations. The similarities between Versailles and the clothing from the time and the outfits of Kenyan tribes. I didn’t get this at all until I read a runway review that explained it — “The designer made the connection in the first look out: a puffer jacket with detachable panniers à la Marie Antoinette, but cut from a red and blue plaid ripped from a photo of African warriors.” (Style.com). The greatest part of this is that these clothes ended up looking like edgy street clothes. The patterns were what really drew me in. They were so engaging and used all over in so many different contexts. The open jacket with the collar in the yellow/black pattern over the navy skirt is just to die for. Literally amazing.
