Fall 2011 RTW: Vivienne Tam

13 Feb

Vivienne Tam is a fan of the extremes — a designer who often takes her inspirations over and above what is expected, and sometimes desired. The inspiration from Chinese opera was more tastefully done than expected. The best part of the collection were the colored woolen outerwear and some of the a-line skirts were really beautiful. Where it became too much was with many of the prints — I loved the mini dresses with the same tone pattern on it (look two). What was strange to me was halfway through the show it seemed as if everything rewound and appeared again in a new color — a concept which works well when the colors are starkly contrasted but this show was all very dark and the same colors so it was a bet deja vu-ey
