Fall 2011 RTW: Tibi

16 Feb

As a Tibi-devotee, I wasn’t all that excited by this collection. Rather than stick with the structured, flirty dresses she is known for, Amy Smilovic took Tibi in a more mature direction for the beginning of the show — long dresses, dark colors, not form fitting…It was interesting and maybe would have worked better had I not been expecting the usual. It would be like Azria making Léger a pants line for one season — just unexpected. There was a lot of outwear in this collection, all very beautiful jackets over simple pieces. The first jacket took the cake by far — the shearling with leather jacket over the pale pink flowing dress. Stunning. In the end she got back to her roots — there was a gold, tiered structured dress that I absolutely love and a red wool one with a high collar. There were some really fabulous pieces in this collection — just as a whole it was surprising.
