Fall 2011 RTW: Isaac Mizrahi

17 Feb

This was such a fun show. Wow. I’ve always had this irrational, weird thing against Mizrahi. All of this was amended by this collection — the collection named, “Cake,” and served cake by “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro — so I would assume these are inspired by cakes. Going with the cake theme, the colors used in the collection fit perfectly starting off with pastels and then slowly progressing to more intense colors. My favorite of the simpler looks is the simple, celery green shift dress with structure and a simple, single bow on the shoulder. My favorite. The patterns get more exotic after this train of simplicity — patterns in giant, intense florals and watercolors that were on very structured but very unusual cuts. Then it went again to more simple looks, but glamorous ones. There were the embellished gowns that were simple but had pzazz and the two pieces that were simple but more complex than the earlier ones. The black, oversized knit over the crepe orange skirt with the bustle was deadly beautiful. It reminded me of the first “fancy” skirt I ever got, from Calpyso in lilac with a bustle. Yes, though. The most unusual aspect of this show has yet to be addressed. With some of the looks, the models sauntered down the runway with dyed poodles. How fabulous is that? Mizrahi is definitely not one to be predictable and presented quite the show yesterday.
