Fall 2011 RTW: Gucci

23 Feb

A surprising collection from Frida Giannini this season. There was definitely an air of an homage to old YSL while retaining the signature Gucci style. The majority of the styles were pretty traditional with not a lot of inventive pieces. There were a lot of jackets with furs, bold colors and sheer prints. My favorite aspect of the show came in the end where there was a series of just gorgeous gowns with floral embellishment. The florals weren’t any of the typical though they were like shawls, draping the shoulders of the slight frame of the models or clustered creating the top part of the dress. They were amazing and looked real, as if there really were patches of florals engrained in the dress. Hand painted and hand sewn, these helped bring this collection up to Gucci standards — adding a dose of flash to a pretty standard collection.
