Fall 2011 RTW: Jean Paul Gaultier

6 Mar

Let us see what JPG dished out for us this season. I thought that this show was hilarious and fabulous. The clothes were not as much a draw as the message — all of these seductive women in beehives, looking elderly and leaving articles of clothing at the end of the runway (obviously, not seen in the pictures). It was bringing sex appeal back to the elder generations. Who can argue with that? The clothes were very masculine and mature — while some had a youthful quality that brought them back down age-wise, most were a little severe. Each piece had a jacket and most were paired with matching, oversized pants. While most jackets were stripped off by the end of the runway, revealing fabulously printed tops underneath, some made it all the way back showing the really masculine oversized cuts on the small feminine forms. I loved the play suits though. They had so much character and pzazz with the metallics sliced in under the gigantic coats.
