Spring 2012: Alberta Ferretti

12 Dec

The beginning of this collection felt very…already done. I don’t know who it reminded me of…a little J. Mendel Fall 2011 with the sheer pieces with metallic overlay. The pants suits were completely unusual though and totally rocked it. The patterns also were very Jen Kao. The amazing part of this collection is in the creation. Ferretti used a wild and unusual technique called intaglio that represents tribal prints — Zulu for Ferretti — in chiffon while mounted on tulle. The colored dresses were composed entirely of small beads. One could never say she isn’t one for detailing, this is some of the most intense and unusual modern design. Ferretti was inspired by the film White Mischief — one that I haven’t seen but I hear it’s really accurate. I love her reinvention of peplum with the sheer and striped peplums. Some wild urban styles here, I’m really loving it.
