Lam concocted a confusing collection for the Spring — a sentence I feel as if I am uttering pretty often with this rundowns. He went retro Cali here — à la Frank Sinatra and Brat Pack era. I see the inspiration although it really doesn’t feel like a retro collection, maybe that’s just because all designers seem to be reaching back right now. The prints on prints which is very seventies also feels so modern . The solid pieces reminded me of Jil Sander SS’11 and the prints on prints feel more Prada SS’11 or Etro than 70′s era to me which is actually a really interesting phenomenon. There were a few timeless leather pieces which I didn’t find very interesting and then some wild pieces like the sequined dress with cut outs and the print on print jacket. This SoCal collection was so different from normal Lam with the almost utter lack of feminine elegance. I was surprised by this collection and not completely pleasantly. Definitely interesting but didn’t grab me as I have become accustomed to expect.
