Spring 2012: Tadashi Shoji

12 Dec

This Tadashi Shoji collection definitely appeals to a broader audience than usual. While a broad range of colors is pretty standard for Shoji, the patterns and huge differences between pieces was completely new. I can’t remember ever having seen a pattern other than graceful floral designs in a Shoji collection before and in this there was an array of stripes and some tie die design — and of course some florals. Shoji looked to tulips for inspiration and in that is where I think a lot of the new diversity in his cuts came from. The staple elegance is present in each dress yet the cuts were much more daring than in past seasons. This was a really stunning collection that showed the designer’s ability to break out of the strict confines of utter feminine elegance that is expected from any collection. Absolutely stunning collection that really revitalized my expectations for the season!
