Fall 2011 RTW: Lanvin

5 Mar

Elbaz experimented this season. He said he was going back to roots in this collection — tradition. Well, whatever these roots are they are definitely dark. The early pieces lacked the intensity and deep passion one always finds in Lanvin, yet they were beautiful and glamorous none the less. There was a series, early on, of black dresses with just the slightest embellishment at the crest of the bust. I loved that. It was utterly simple but utterly divine. After all of the somber black, the finally was not based around giant gowns but bright colors — but so, so beautifully done they could have been showed in a Couture Collection. The colors were very Halston to me — but that does not really mean anything. I loved the giant ruffle on the tangerine color mini-dress and the deep pink with the rouching off on the side. Those are pieces I would spend all of my savings to own. A very unusual collection for Lanvin, but definitely a successful one.
