Fall 2011 RTW: Dennis Basso

15 Feb

Fur was not merely an accessory for Dennis Basso’s fall collection, it was the key element. There was a sportswear feel to this collection, mixed with the elegance and luxury of the fur. The cake-taker for this collection was the jackets of mixed furs — all different kinds from every type of animal. I read somewhere that he mixed lynx, sable and alligator for one piece. They were amazing to look at and so intriguing. What I also loved about this show was the belts — who would have thought a furrier could cut a fabulous belt? The rope ones were very cool — they were thick and long and really attention grabbing, a difficult feat when layered under mountains of luxurious fur. My favorite was in the only completely fur-less piece (notice the fur-bag in the first look), the third look has the greatest, simplest belt I have seen in ages. It caught me completely off guard — that and how chic this look is.
